If you import dietary supplements into the United States, "FDA registration" is one of the first compliance topics you will meet. It is also one of the most misunderstood. This article explains what facility registration actually means, what it does not certify, and how to verify a supplier's registration before you commit.
1. What is FDA facility registration?
Under the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act, domestic and foreign facilities that manufacture, process, pack or hold dietary supplements intended for the U.S. market must register with the FDA and renew their registration every fiscal year. Registration is an establishment listing — it tells the FDA who and where you are.
2. What registration does NOT mean
- It is not a product approval or certification.
- It is not a quality grade or endorsement of the facility.
- It does not cover your finished product's compliance (labeling, claims, cGMPs) — that remains the importer's responsibility.
Still, registration matters: without a registered supplier, your import may be flagged or detained at the border.
3. Why importers should verify registration
A registered facility demonstrates that a manufacturer takes the U.S. market seriously and maintains a compliant file. Verifying a supplier's registration is a fast, free diligence step that filters out informal operators — especially important when sourcing private-label supplements from overseas.
4. How to check a supplier's registration
- Ask the supplier for their FDA Registration Number and D-U-N-S number.
- Confirm the registered legal name and address match the company you are contracting with.
- Check that the registration is current for the current fiscal year (October 1 – September 30 in the U.S.).
- Request supporting documents and a Certificate of Analysis with your samples.
5. Haiyue Shengda's registration
Shaanxi Haiyue Shengda Trading Co., Ltd. holds a current US FDA facility registration (Fiscal Year 2026): Registration No. 11057149244, D-U-N-S 540239665. You can review the details on our Quality & Compliance page. As with all FDA registrations, it is an establishment listing renewed annually, not a product approval.
6. Ask the right questions
Beyond registration, request: cGMP compliance statements, COA for each batch, allergen and heavy-metal testing, and packaging documentation. A professional OEM partner provides these without hesitation. If a supplier cannot produce a registration number or batch documents, that is a red flag.
